U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville took to social media Thursday to explain the thinking behind his blockade of military promotions.

“If the Pentagon is allowed to bypass the Constitution with a memo…what’s next?” Tuberville stated on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Taxpayer funded transgender surgeries for children? The 2nd Amendment rights of “right wing” veterans? What’s next?”

Tuberville appended a post from The Federalist on the issue.

The former Auburn football coach began his block on military promotions in February.

That came after the Pentagon declared it would help troops travel for reproductive health care if they are stationed in states that have increased restrictions on abortion since last year’s Supreme Court decision.

Tuberville contends that Congress should have voted on that policy.

Last week, the promotions of Marine Commandant Eric Smith; Air Force Gen. CQ Brown to be the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and Gen. Randy George to be the Army’s chief of staff were individually advanced to votes after Tuberville planned to file cloture.

Tuberville voted against Brown’s nomination as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff last week because “I think he has some woke policies.” Brown’s nomination passed, 83-11.

Democrats blasted Tuberville for referring to the military not being “an equal opportunity employer,” with one calling him “the worst of the worst.”

There are still 316 promotions on hold, according to the Pentagon.
